The twenty books of the Bud-e reading programme are for children from four to seven years old in te reo Māori. The books encourage children to learn to read and write through fun stories and also develop children’s reading confidence. All of the stories have humour, engaging characters and amusing illustrations that capture children’s interest. The books gradually introduce new words and constructions and build the word bank children need to become independent readers.
